Ivory Coast’s reaggae singer Alpha Blondy holds a cigarette on April 16, 2010 in Abidjan during a press conference. Alpha Blondy demanded toagree with the Ouagadougou Agreement regarding the political situation of Ivory Coast. Ivory Coast has been divided since a foiled coup against President Laurent Gbagbo in September 2002, after which New Forces rebels largely took control of the northern half of the cocoa-rich country.
Presidential elections have been delayed several times since 2005 but are now slated for late April or early May, with the New Forces, led by Prime Minister Guillaume Soro, pledging to disarm before then.
